teaser tuesdays 9/18

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. Each week participants post a few teaser sentences from their current read(s)!

First up, a book I mentioned in last week’s post. Things got a little hectic this past week and I wasn’t able to finish. I’m hoping to do so soon!
The Corpse-Rat King by Lee Battersby is an absolutely incredible fantasy novel (& really, does Angry Robot publish anything that isn’t awesome??). Marius don Hellespont and his apprentice are looting a battlefield one day when they come across the dead body of the King. A dead soldier mistakes Marius for said King and Marius finds himself in the dead’s world. After it’s discovered that, no he is not their ruler and he’s actually very much alive, the dead return him to the living with a task: find them a new king.

Assuming the listener is not lost within thoughts of such beauty that questioning them becomes impossible, it is often tempting to ask why the storyteller returned to tell the tale, why, indeed, he isn’t still lying on those golden sands, eating the perfect fish, and showing the beautiful native girls that little trick he picked up at Madame Mirabella’s House of Relaxation. The answer is invariably the same: “The captain caught me.”

Oh, and what is this shiny book that I’m sure no one has ever heard of before? Why, it’s Unspoken Sarah Rees Brennan, the book everyone and their brother has been drooling over! :) I got an ARC a while ago and have just started it.

Sorry-in-the-Vale’s records date back to the 1400s. Six hundred years do not go by without someone doing something nefarious.
