NaNoWriMo begins in one hour and I. Can’t. Wait!! Halloween is fun and all, but for me, the end of October means one thing: NaNo.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, NaNoWriMo is a huge event every November (National November Writing Month – or, National Novel Writing Month, depending on who you ask) where participants slave away the whole month in an attempt to write a 50,000 word novel. HOW FUN.
I’ve been doing it since 2005 and it’s a blast. There are separate forums for your city and people arrange meet-ups and plan events. It’s wonderful. & I’ve found over the years that everyone truly wants to help others. Each year brings a new wave of participants and each year there’s an Adopt a Newbie thread. There are word wars and other games people play with one another and published authors get in on it as well. Last year Neil Gaiman gave a pep talk! This year there are some wonderful authors lined up to give talks of their own: full list is here! I’m especially excited for Erin Morgenstern’s!
I’m gatsby; feel free to add me
& we can suffer together & weep softly on one another’s shoulder all month long!
