It’s Monday! 10/2

..technically, Tuesday. But I was running around all day, volunteered to take a midnight shift at work, and only recently got home. This is my first chance to finally sit down and relax. Yay!

It’s Monday! What are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey!

I recently started two books & I’m super excited about both!

First up is The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt

Hermann Kermit Warm is going to die. The enigmatic and powerful man known only as the Commodore has ordered it, and his henchmen, Eli and Charlie Sisters, will make sure of it. Though Eli doesn’t share his brother’s appetite for whiskey and killing, he’s never known anything else. But their prey isn’t an easy mark, and on the road from Oregon City to Warm’s gold-mining claim outside Sacramento, Eli begins to question what he does for a living–and whom he does it for.

With The Sisters Brothers, Patrick deWitt pays homage to the classic Western, transforming it into an unforgettable comic tour de force. Filled with a remarkable cast of characters–losers, cheaters, and ne’er-do-wells from all stripes of life–and told by a complex and compelling narrator, it is a violent, lustful odyssey through the underworld of the 1850s frontier that beautifully captures the humor, melancholy, and grit of the Old West and two brothers bound by blood, violence, and love.

I’m still in the beginning – I just started the second chapter, but !!!!! So. Cool!

This next one is just something quick & easy. I love cozy mysteries!

Grace Under Pressure (A Manor of Murder Mysteries #1) by Julie Hyzy

Everyone wants a piece of millionaire Bennett Marshfield, owner of Marshfield Manor, but now it’s up to a new curator Grace Wheaton and handsome groundskeeper Jack Embers to protect dear old Marshfield. But to do this, they’ll have to investigate a botched Ponzi scheme, some torrid Wheaton family secrets-and sour grapes out for revenge.

I originally planned on starting with the second book, Grace Interrupted (it deals with Civil War reenactors!!!), but figured that since there are only two books out so far, I might as well start with the first.

    1. For the most part, I refuse to do it. However, if the books work as stand-alone novels, then I have no problem in reading them out of order. I got into one of my favorite series that way.
